WELCOME TO PACK 83!

Scout Pack 83 is for all boys in grades 1-5 in the West Islip area.  We were established in 1957 and are currently sponsored by American Legion Post 1738 on Union Blvd in West Islip, NY.

The Cub Scout program is divided by grade level. In each grade, the scouts work towards specific rank achievements. All ranks are designed to be age relevant and grade specific. Scouts participate in two meetings per month. During this time, an activity or project is planned for a particular achievement and led by the "Den Leader," a parent volunteer. Monthly "Pack" meetings are held at various schools in the area where all dens (grades 1-5) come together for a group activity-scout ceremonies, awards, projects, games or guest speakers. Siblings are welcome to attend Den and Pack meetings.

Pack 83 participates in many community service projects such as marching and participating in the Annual Memorial Day Parade, placing an American flag on every grave at the Long Island National Cemetery each year on the Saturday before Memorial Day, West Islip Tree lighting, clean up of the grounds at our sponsor, American Legion Post 1738 and other community projects as they come along.

Other special events and activities include a popcorn fundraiser, participating as the Color Guard at a Long Island Ducks Baseball Game, Build, Design and Race a car for the Annual Pinewood Derby, Blue and Gold Banquet,  field trips to a New York Islanders hockey game or a Long Island Lizard Lacrosse game and our annual fishing trip from the Captree Boat Basin.

We have participated as a pack in overnight camping trips to the Baiting Hollow Scout Camp, Battleship Cove, USS Intrepid Museum and the Museum of Natural History. Every year, we plan and organize as many outings as possible to give everyone as many choices as possible.

Scouting develops strong values in each boy. It honors the home, school and religious organizations as the origins of our youth's values. The goal of Scouting is to nurture and extend these values and emphasize self-confidence, fun and a sense of accomplishment.
